Thank you for your continued support of the Free West Papua Campaign. This month we bring you good news from the Melanesian Spearhead Group and a report of a very moving demonstration held in London to mark 15 years since the Biak Massacre. We also send a reminder to all our UK supporters that we are asking you to write to your MP requesting they join the All Party Parliamentary Group on West Papua.

MSG makes positive statements for West Papua

Following a strong campaign by the West Papuan National Coalition for Liberation and the government of Vanuatu for West Papua to be given member status in the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG), it was disappointing that this week’s meeting postponed any such decision to the future. Surfers boycott of Indonesia draws debate

As the campaign grows, the West Papua struggle finds its way onto the agenda of surfers in Australia, posing questions about their frequent visits to Indonesia in search of waves. Anti-apartheid leader dedicates award to the people of West Papua

The Rev. James Lawson, who worked alongside Martin Luther King, presented awards to four civil resisters. One of this year’s winners is Mkuseli (Khusta) Jack, the strategist who led consumer boycotts in South Africa. In his acceptance speech Khusta said “I dedicate this award, which is lodged deep in my heart, to the people of West Papua.”
