Interpol acts as a clearing house for 190 law enforcement agencies around the world.
It issues "red notices", which are effectively global wanted posters.
But the group Fair Trials International told Newsline Interpol red notices are being abused and its considering legal action.
It says the case of Papuan independence campaigner Benny Wenda shows how countries are using Interpol to harass or detain political dissident.
Last year Interpol issued a red notice for him at the request of Indonesia.
Mr Wenda is wanted for "crimes involving the use of weapons/explosives". |
